Want to take a class on Egyptian mythology? Origami? Chemical sensors? All are possible. Over the course of 20 hours during Splash, you can get your feet wet with a short introduction to any number of subjects—things you always wanted to learn, or topics you never knew existed. Northwestern Center for Talent Development MATS provides the opportunity for kids in grades 3-5 to take above grade level tests, either the Explore (grades 3-5) or the SAT or ACT (grades 6-8) and then receive information on how they scored compared to other MATS participants and information on what those scores mean in terms of future educational choices and opportunities. To qualify to participate in MATS, students need to have scored in the 95th percentile or above on a nationally normed test (97th percentile for 3rd grade). The MAP tests which the district gives is one example of a nationally normed test. More information can be found at: http://www.ctd.northwestern.edu/ , click on "Learn more about MATS" |
