GECO Parenting Book Club

This year we will have two parenting book clubs, one that will meet evenings and one that will meet in the afternoons. Initially these two book clubs will be reading the same titles, though eventually, their reading lists may diverge. The afternoon book club will be meeting generally on the first Friday of the month at 12:30 PM in the Hinsdale Public Library Storytime Room or at a member's home. The evening book club will meet the last Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM, usually at a member's home.

Each month we gather to discuss topics relevant to parents of gifted children, including current issues in gifted education. The starting point for our discussion will be the books listed below, however our discussions typically meander far from the confines of the texts. All are welcome to join us, even if they have not read the books.

You can reach the leaders of both book clubs at GECOParentingBookClub@ArvaMont.com. Please email them if you are interested in more information, to find out a meeting location, or if you want to be placed on their monthly reminder email lists. Remember to indicate if you are primarily interested in meeting in the afternoons or the evenings. (You can do both, or flip flop, if that works better for you!)

The Parenting book club is reading:

Friday, February 10, 2012 - 9:15 to 10:45 AM, Hinsdale Public Library

GECO Coffee: How Do We Give Our Kids a Growth Mindset: Because this month's GECO Coffee is based on a book, we encourage you to attend in leiu of book club this month. Read Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck, then join us to discuss its implications on parenting and schooling. Dr. Martha Henrikson, Assistant Principal at Hinsdale Middle School, will be joining us for this fascinating discussion. A limited number of copies of the book are on "book Club Hold" at the circulation desk of the Hinsdale Public library if you are interested. As always, bring your favorite morning brew. Open to all.
